Ella Groskreutz

Ella Groskreutz, age 96, of Carrington, ND, died Saturday, November 21, 2009, at Carrington Health Center, Carrington, ND.

Ella Sophia Schroeder was born on November 4, 1913, the daughter of William and Freda (Grager) Schroeder at their farm home in Rose Hill Township, Bordulac, ND. She was baptized on December 6, 1913 by Rev. Leuker at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Bordulac, and was confirmed by Rev. Lange on July 21, 1924. She attended grade school in Bordulac and Rose Hill #2, and graduated from Bordulac High School on May 27, 1932.

On November 4, 1938, Ella married Eric Groskreutz in Kensal, ND. They lived in Carrington, where she worked at Borth and Speidel’s Department Store, at Farmers Union Oil, Farmers Union Insurance, and Farmers Union Credit Union. Ella was the telephone answering service for Evans Funeral Home for 40 years.
Eric died on December 2, 1995. Ella entered Golden Acres Manor in July of 2006.

She was a Charter Member of Grace Lutheran Church, and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, crocheting, quilting and reading. While Eric and Ella didn’t have children of their own, Ella was a “Mother� to many children and people over the years.

Ella is survived by her sister, Alice Wolsky, Kensal, ND; many nieces and nephews, and sixteen godchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eric; her parents, William and Freda; a sister, Lillian Wolsky; and a brother, Harold Schroeder.
