Harold Hertel
Harold Hertel, age 81, of Carrington, ND, died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington, ND.
Harold Hertel was born on April 23, 1928, in Glacier Township, Stutsman County, ND, the son of John and Lydia (Gruszie) Hertel. He was raised and attended school in Glacier Township and also lived in Foster County. On October 22, 1950, Harold married Thelma Joyce Hatch at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carrington. He farmed south of Carrington and did carpentry work in the area. Later, they moved their house to Carrington where Harold continued doing his woodworking, and fixing and repairing things. He was a member and Grand Master of IOOF, served on Carrington’s ambulance squad for 30 years, served on Carrington’s City Council, drove school bus, was on the township board in Melville, and held various positions on the board at Federated Church. Harold enjoyed playing pinochle and collecting hats. Harold is survived by his wife, Joyce, Carrington, ND; one son, Rick (Denise) Hertel, West Fargo, ND; one daughter, Barbara (Mark) Sullivan, Malta, MT; eight grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; and one son-in-law, Murmen Gary, Manton, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Nancy Gary; one brother, Wilfred; and one sister, Deloris Neuman.
