Herbert Koepplin
Herbert Koepplin, age 87, of New Rockford, ND, died Thursday, January 1, 2009, at Carrington Health Center, Carrington, ND.
Herbert Gust Koepplin was born December 9, 1921, in Elgin, ND, the son of Martin and Philippina (Stevahn) Koepplin. He grew up and attended school at Elgin, where he was also confirmed in a church service conducted in the German language. The family moved to Brantford, ND, in 1938, where he worked on the family farm and later for area farmers. Herbert married Donna Anderson on September 1, 1941, in Sheyenne, ND. They moved to Carrington where Herb began working for the Soo Line Railroad for 24 years. They moved to Bordulac, ND, for one year, then to Grace City, ND, for 4 ½ years. They moved to New Rockford where they operated Koepplin Cleaners for 13 years. Herb also had a summer lawn mowing service in New Rockford for many years. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church where he had served as trustee. Herb enjoyed repairing things and had a sewing machine repair service. He loved to garden and made great canned pickles. He is survived by his wife Donna; one daughter, Candace Jensen, New Rockford; three sons, Terry (Sandy) Koepplin, New Rockford, David (Lisa) Koepplin, Jamestown, ND, Rick (Cora) Koepplin, Fargo, ND; a daughter-in-law, Cecelia Koepplin, St. Paul, MN; two brothers, Elmer Koepplin, New Rockford, Andy Koepplin, Fargo; two sisters, Bertha Pahl and Tina Anderson, both of Carrington; thirty grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Philippina Koepplin; one son, Gerald Koepplin; one daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and George Geske; and one sister, Emma Birkholz.
