James Semmens

James A. Semmens, age 75, of Carrington, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, North Dakota.

James Allen Semmens was born April 14, 1933, the son of Harry and Gertrude (Halaas) Semmens at rural New Rockford, ND in Eddy County. He was raised and attended school at Carrington and graduated from Carrington High School in 1952. He served in the US Army 1953 – 1955 in the Korean War. He returned to Carrington after his discharge.

On June 23, 1956, Jim was united in marriage to Sherrill Holverson at Carrington. He worked at an area gas station for a time and later at Gambles and C&G Furniture Store. He then worked for the City of Carrington at the water treatment plant and retired from there in 1996. He then worked at the Country General Store, all at Carrington.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and Trinity Choir, the John Raymond O’Hara American Legion Post #25 and the McCreary-Bonderude VFW Post #3524, all of Carrington. Jim enjoyed singing in the Church Choir, the Minnesota Vikings Football, Twins Baseball and Carrington High School sports.

He is survived by his wife; Sherrill, Carrington, two sons: Kevin (Colleen) Semmens, New Rockford, Tom (Cindy) Semmens, Minot, ND; one daughter, Jeanine (David) Lorenz, Minot; six grandchildren and three step grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother Ronald (Judy) Semmens, Mayville, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, LaVerne (Bud) and Richard; and one sister Elaine Young.
