Joyce Johnson

Joyce Johnson, 71, of Culbertson, MT, Died on Thursday evening, September 10, 2009 at the Trinity Medical Center in Minot. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Mountain time, on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at the Bethel Free Lutheran Church in Culbertson. A GRAVESIDE SERVICE WILL BE HELD at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 18, at Grace City Cemetery, Grace City, ND, with Rev. Jeff Kapelle officiating.


Joyce A. Chapman was born in New Rockford, ND, on November 19, 1937 to Joe and Audrey (Thompson) Chapman. She was raised in Grace City and educated at the Cherry Lake School Number Three.


On July 9, 1958, Joyce was united in marriage to Stanley Johnson at Jamestown, North Dakota. The couple established their home in Devils Lake, ND before moving to Cut Bank, MT in 1965. The family stayed in Cut Bank until 1976 when they moved to Culbertson, MT, where Joyce lived until her death.


While living in Culbertson and Cut Bank, Joyce was a day care provider as well as a cook for the Cut Bank and Culbertson Nursing Home and Hospital and at the Tasty Freeze in Culbertson.


Joyce was an avid collector of Barbie Dolls accumulating over 200 dolls, most still in their boxes and in pristine condition. She was also a collector of coins. She loved having her grandchildren come to Culbertson to stay for the summer and she enjoyed visiting with her friends.


Surviving Joyce are her husband, Stanley, of Culbertson; one son, Stan, of New Rockford; one daughter, Jocelynn (Dale) Haupt, of Auburn, WA; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; mother-in-law, Rachel Johnson of Great Falls, MT; brother-in-law, David Johnson, of Great Falls, MT; one niece and two nephews.


Proceeding Joyce in death were her parents; her stepfather, Joe Brychta; grandson, Joshua Johnson; and father in law, Sam Johnson.
