Lila Alfstad

Lila Alfstad, age 80, of New Rockford, ND, died Thursday, October 8, 2009, at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford.

Lila Maxine Ambers was born June 6, 1929, on the family farm near Hamberg, ND, the daughter of Lewis and Olga (Simonson) Ambers. She grew up speaking Norwegian but had to learn English in order to start school. She attended country school in Wells County and attended Benson County Ag School at Maddock, ND. Lila was baptized and confirmed at Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock, ND.

Lila was united in marriage to Hilding Alfstad on May 1, 1950, in Fessenden, ND. They lived and farmed on the Alfstad family farm in Walhalla Township in Wells County. Hilding died on October 31, 1996. Lila moved to Westview Apartments, New Rockford, in 2003, and to Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in May of 2004.

Lila enjoyed reading, watching country western movies and was a great lefse maker. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lila was a member of the Eden Lutheran Church, the Eden Ladies Aid, and taught Sunday school for several years.

She is survived by one daughter, Della (Ray) Rudolph, Wimbledon, ND; one son, Dan (Joan) Alfstad, Sheyenne, ND; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; three brothers, Kenneth (Valerie) Ambers, Cheshire, OR, Judal (Pam) Ambers and Alvern Ambers, both of Vancouver, WA; one sister Clarice Fossen, Vancouver, WA; and many nieces and nephews.

Lila was preceded in death by her husband; an infant daughter Rebecca; her parents; four brothers, Lester, Roy, Stanton, Lawrence; and two sisters, Vionne and Alvina.
