Nyle Gallagher

Nyle Gallagher, age 93, of Carrington, ND, died peacefully on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington, surrounded by his family.

Nyle Alex Gallagher was born February 12, 1916, on a farm near Eldridge, ND, the son of John and Violet (Miller) Gallagher. He attended school in the Vashti, ND, area. He then worked as a cook in a Civilian Conservation Corps camp at Medora, ND. He also worked on a ranch at Big Timber, MT, and a dairy farm near Mason City, Iowa.

Nyle was united in marriage to Alma Bjornhei on June 27, 1943, at the Rev. N.E. McCoy home in Jamestown, ND. They farmed at Vashti, ND, until retiring in 1983. During that time, Nyle had been a custodian of the Pingree, ND, Public School. He also drove school bus for Woodworth, Pingree, and Jamestown Public Schools. They moved to Jamestown, ND, where they managed apartments. In 2001, they moved to Carrington. Alma Gallagher died November 10, 2003.

Nyle was a member of Gideons International and over the years did a great amount of jail ministry. He was also a member of Toastmasters. His hobbies included hunting, watching baseball, dancing, and playing cards.

He is survived by two sons, Dale (Debbie) and John (Lorelei), both of Carrington; three daughters, Shirley (Donald) Schroeder of McVille, ND, Patricia (Dennis) Groven of Hankinson, ND, Gail (David) Williams of Crane, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Theresa Gallagher of Medina, ND; sixteen grandchildren, eighteen great- grandchildren; one brother, Delmer (Hilda) of Bismarck, ND; two sisters, Valzora “Tine� Wilson and Dorothy Smith Cardon, both of Puyallup, WA.

Nyle was preceded in death by his wife; three sons, Neal, Jack, and infant Ralph; one sister, Velva Stone; six brothers, his twin Lyle, Verel, Raymond “Bud�, Jack, and infants Johnny and Ralph.
