Paul Schroeder

Paul R. Schroeder, age 87, of Bordulac, ND, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Paul Robert Schroeder was born July 5, 1921, in Foster County, rural Bordulac, ND, the son of Albert and Clara (Grager) Schroeder He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at Bordulac, ND. He attended country school and the Bordulac School.

He graduated from the Reisch American School of Auctioneering, Mason City, Iowa, on December 14, 1946. He auctioneered with Schroeder & Schroeder Auction Service, first with his cousin, Harold Schroeder, and later with his son, Larry. He auctioneered & farmed until his health failed. Paul was the third generation owner to live and farm on the Schroeder Homestead, located 13 1/2 miles SE of Carrington.

On November 19, 1948, Paul was united in marriage to Elsie Holland at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in November 2008.

He had served on the FHA Board, was an FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer, and a member of Grace Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir. Paul enjoyed auctioneering, driving John Deere tractors, and visiting with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie; a daughter, LuAnn (Martin) Sjursen, Tucson, AZ; a daughter-in-law Candy Schroeder, Carrington; 5 grandchildren: Tim & Rachel Schroeder, Carrington, Anne Marie, Kari and Ryan Sjursen, Tucson, AZ; one sister, Sophia Topp, Everett, WA; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Schroeder, Carrington; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Larry, his brother Clarence, and his sister Margaret.
