Robert Montgomery

Robert Montgomery, age 84, of Carrington, ND, passed away at his home in Carrington, ND, on Wednesday, November 25, 2009.

Robert Hugh Montgomery was born August 28, 1926, in Carrington, the son of David and Ardell (Rindy) Montgomery. He attended Wyard School in Wyard Township, and graduated from Carrington High School. In 1944, Robert entered the US Army and served as a paratrooper in World War II in the 13th and 82nd Airborne Divisions in Europe. In January of 1945, Robert was united in marriage to Carol Mills at Carrington. In 1946, after the war, he returned to his farm near Carrington to raise cattle and horses, farm small grains, and they raised their family there. Robert & Carol moved from the farm into Carrington in the early 1970s.

He took great pleasure in watching and supporting wildlife, and he enjoyed watching sports, playing pinochle, reading newspapers, and enjoying his favorite dogs Bitsy and Hobbes. He also enjoyed seeing friends and family, watching sunflowers and gardens grow, and following the local high school teams. He was an Honorary C-Club member of Carrington High School, and he was a member of the VFW and the American Legion posts at Carrington.

He is survived by Carol, his wife of 64 years; his children, Jim of San Francisco, CA, Ann Montgomery of Flagstaff, AZ, Scott (Shirley) of Fargo, Sue Montgomery of Mandan, Lee (Sheila) of Fargo, Jennifer Montgomery of Boston, MA, and Ron of Jamestown; his granddaughter Brooke Montgomery of San Francisco, CA; and his brother David of Felton, CA.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents David and Ardell Montgomery, his daughter Kay and his son Richard.
