Lawrence Haas

Lawrence Neil Haas, age 72, of Jamestown, ND, formerly of Carrington, ND, was called home to our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown, ND.

Lawrence Neil Haas was born on April 19, 1939, at McVille, ND, the son of Clifford and Neva (Mannie) Haas. On June 22, 1958, he married his childhood sweetheart, Ordis Ann Engel in Tolna, ND. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage, raising their children and showing their love and devotion to one another; where you saw one, you saw the other.

In April 1955, Lawrence began working for Reimer’s Seed Farm in Carrington. After 40 years of hard work and dedication, he retired for health reasons. Lawrence and Ordis wintered in Arizona for 14 years, where they enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Ordis passed away on August 12, 2009, and later Lawrence moved to Jamestown to be closer to his children.

Lawrence was an avid hunter and gun collector. He also enjoyed woodworking, camping, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, playing games, reading western novels and watching John Wayne movies. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Carrington. Lawrence was an inspiration to his family and friends as he endured several years of health challenges with amazing spirit and faith.

Lawrence will be remembered and deeply missed by a son, Owen (Jean) Haas, Lemmon, SD; three daughters, Laurie (Neil) Kramer and Vickie Hatlewick, both of Jamestown, ND, and Kathie (Gregg) Eguchi, Glendale, AZ; a former son-in-law, Brian Hatlewick, Jamestown, ND; six grandchildren, Jason and Kayla Haas, Natalie and Allison Kramer, Seth and Stacie Hatlewick; two brothers Robert of Mandan, ND and Jim (Judy) of Payson, AZ; a sister, Kay Russell, Minneapolis, MN; a brother-in-law, Glenn (Joanne) Engel, Lincoln, NE; a sister-in-law, Renita (Knut) Kjenslie, Clermont, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, son-in-law, Scott Cluff, father-in-law and mother-in-law, two brothers, four sisters-in-law, and a brother-in-law.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials to Grace Lutheran Church.
