Genevieve Mastin

Genevieve Estella Mastin, 90, beloved Mother and Wife, went home to be with the Lord on January 30, 2023.

Genevieve was born June 29, 1932 in Ogema, Minnesota to Jennings and Nellie Borah.  After attending grade school in Ogema she went on to graduate, Class of 1951 from High School in Detroit Lakes.  Genevieve was united in marriage to Ivan Mastin on July 5, 1951 in Ogema.  They had 68 years together when Ivan was taken home to heaven.  To this union were added four children.  Genevieve loved the Lord and had an inner strength and strong faith.  When her husband Ivan went to Bible College to became a pastor, she was by his side in the ministry. She loved to entertain at church functions.  She would play the piano when needed and helped with the children ministries.  Ivan and Genevieve served in five churches. She made many new friends.  Her greatest joys were her family and friends. She loved playing games, music, sewing and doing crafts.  She liked to travel and watching the deer and birds when she was home.  She loved flowers. She always had beautiful flower beds.  Genevieve worked at factories and restaurants. She enjoyed doing childcare and homecare for elderly.

She moved to Bisbee, North Dakota after Ivan passed. Genevieve would live there until mid-December of 2022.  Her health deteriorated and her last weeks were spent at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, senior care facility, New Rockford, ND.

Genevieve is survived by her daughter, Beverly (Terry) Bell, Readstown, WI; sons, Jay Thomas (Tammy), Bisbee, N.D and Kelly James (Kelly)Victorville, CA; two ex-daughters in law, Candance Petron and Sara Willis; two sisters, Isabel Pederson and Sylvia (Steve) Peterson; sisters-in-law, Bonnie and Margaret; Ivan’s sister, Joyce (Bruce) Peterson; brother, Virgil (Pat); fifteen grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

There will be a Celebration of Genevieve’s life on April 1, 2023 at the Ogema Community Center beginning at 1:00p.m.
