Richard Daniel Dubois, beloved grandpa, dad, brother, husband, and friend, passed away on December 1st, 2025, at Essentia Health in Fargo, North Dakota, He was 67 years old. 

Richard was born on May 14th, 1958, at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake, North Dakota. He was the son of the late Alvina Josephine McKay and the late William Richard IronMoccasin. Throughout his life, Richard carried the strength, humor, and compassion learned from his family and his roots, shaping him into the man so many loved and depended on. He was a great accomplished Carpenter/Mechanic & Champion Horseshoe Player.  

In 1986, Richard met his soulmate and the love of his life, Melody Lawrence. From that moment on, their lives were intertwined in deep partnership and unwavering devotion. Through their union, Richard became a loving stepfather to Robert (Mandy) Lawrence, Alison (Ricky) Lawrence, and Mindy (Curtis) Lawrence. Together, Richard and Melody expanded their family with three more children: Richard Dubois/Lawrence, Sarah (Nick) Dubois, and Brittany Dubois. 

Richard and Melody made their home in St. Michaels, where Richard resided until his passing. Family meant everything to him, and his greatest joy was being a grandpa. His grandchildren were countless blessings in his life, each one holding a special place in his heart: 

Lynn Lawrence, Bronson Walter, Jayden Yankton, Alionna Lawrence, Robert J. Lawrence, Ethan Lawrence, Beau Walter, Brianna Lawrence, Brylee Dubois, Gracie Walkingeagle, Mitchel Greene Jr., Michael Greene, Aseri & Riley Demarce, Presley Lawrence, Gage Walkingeagle, Briella Dubois, Harrison Lawrence, Ricklynn & Rickayla Dubois, Taleah Leftbear, Carlos Quarry Jr., Gabriella Walkingeagle, Cataleya Lawrence, Nicklaus Morin Jr., and Wells Lawrence.  

Great Grand Children: Jayci Yankton, Armani Lawrence.  

He also leaves behind his Aunt Sally Lena, who held a cherished place in his life. 

Richard is survived by his siblings: Janice, Mary, Loretta, Jennifer, and Ben Dubois. And Many Nieces and Nephews.  

He was reunited in the Spirit World with his parents; Grandma Mary Jane McKay; Aunt Eunice Whiteman/McKay; brothers Dallas, Darrel, and Eugene Dubois; Daughter Alicia Rainbow, Niece Angel Dubois, Nephew Baby Boy Whitebuffalo and granddaughter Berkley Morin. Their memory, along with Richard’s, will continue to guide and watch over the family.

If anyone was unintentionally left out, the family wishes to express that it was not intentional. They appreciate the love and support during this difficult time. 

Richard will be remembered for his kindness, humor, strength, and the deep love he held for his family. His presence was a source of comfort, and his absence will be felt deeply by all who knew him. May he rest in peace. 

Richard’s Visitation will be Monday, December 8, 2025 starting at 10:00AM followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00AM all at St. Michael Rec. Center, St. Michael, ND.
