Faithful wife and mother, avid reader, baker of exceptional pies and cookies, this tenacious, strong-minded, woman was born on July 31,1936 to Martin and Gisella Huss in Sykeston, ND, and died peacefully on June 5, 2025, at the age of 88 years.

She graduated from Sykeston Public School in 1954 and worked for 3M in St. Paul after high school. On October 11, 1958, Fran married Merlyn Johnson and together they raised four children on their family farm outside of Sykeston. She taught by example the value of hard work and taking pride in a job well-done.

Fran worked for many years as the Gaming Manager for the Carrington Youth Center. She and Merlyn enjoyed spending a few winter months in Boulder City, NV where she would work as a Casino Dealer. She found joy in her yard and flower gardens, especially her tidal wave petunias, and passed that joy onto her children. Attracted by her lively personality and ability to listen, many people considered Fran a friend.

Fran is survived by her four children, Marcy (Mark) Syman – Stillwater MN, Lisa (Paul) Klocke – Carrington ND, Wesley (Camey) Johnson – Washburn ND, and Alison (Shane) Schumann – Carrington ND; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sister, Hilda Rafferty; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley Huss, Yvonne and Bob Miller, and Steve and Jeanette Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband and parents; parents-in-law, Victor and Beatrice Johnson; her brother, George Huss; sister, Margaret Linhart; sister-in-law, Vickie Sarro; and brother-in-law, Lowell Johnson.

May she rest in peace and love.

Fran’s Visitation will be Tuesday, June 10, 2025 from 1:00PM-4:00PM at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington and continue from 5:30PM-6:30PM with a Rosary Service at 6:00PM and Vigil Service at 6:30PM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, Sykeston, ND.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at 10:30AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, Sykeston, ND.

Her Burial will be at the St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Cemetery, Sykeston, ND.

Your Mom was a strong, hard working, loving woman that inspired me since I was young. She gave me my first babysitting job, encouraged and supported our family through graduations, weddings, babies, good times and hard times. Your Mom was always there for my Mom.
