Warren Green, 88, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.

Warren “Jimmy” Green was born on February 26, 1937 to Warren L. and Agnes (Langer) Greene in Fort Totten, ND. He grew up on “East End” of the Spirit Lake Reservation, alongside his cousins, sharing a deep bond of hunting and exploring the outdoors.

Jimmy attended school at the Little Flower School in St. Michael and enlisted in the Army in 1956. He was a proud Korean War Conflict veteran, who served his country with honor and dedication. His strong sense of duty and quiet strength were qualities he carried throughout his life.

After his military service, Jimmy worked at the loading docks in Chicago but his passion in life was farming alongside his brother/cousin, Clarence Greene. Jimmy worked as a police officer, road construction and provided security for many years.

A natural teacher at heart, he loved teaching others about gardening. He passed along his knowledge of growing and caring for the land. Many in the community will remember him for his gardening and he insisted on a huge garden and not a plot.

Jimmy enjoyed watching NASCAR and the thrill of the race while cheering on his favorite drivers. He also enjoyed watching football and baseball.

He is survived by his children: Leslie, James, Raymond, Eddie, Lynn, Aaron and Fabian Green and adopted daughter, Bonnie Jerome, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Warren and Agnes, and brothers: Orrin, Larry and Frank Greene and sister, Viola.

May he rest in peace, knowing his life was well lived and his legacy continues through all who loved him.

Pallbearers: Aaron Green Jr., David Quinones, Frank Gourd Jr., Charles Black, Rock Baer Jr., Keyen Omen, Jacob Greene, Joey Greene and Fabian Green Jr.

Honorary Pallbearers: Spirit Lake VFW 6547, Skip Longie, Clarence Greene & Family, Tony McDonald & family, Ava Froehlich and family, Dee Dee & Ann Wadsworth, Frannie Greyhorn, Darlene Myhre, Dana, Marisa, Rock Jr. and Samantha Baer, Jimmy Baker, Craig and Punky Brown, Lonna Street, Duane Jackson, ReNa Lohnes and Sam Merrick, and Connie & Jeanne Charboneau.  If we forgot to mention anyone, please know it was not intentional.

Military Honors: VFW Post #6547, Fort Totten, ND.

  3. Grandpa Jimmy, you’ll be missed. I’d like to share a memory with everyone who knew you best.

As young children, Grandpa Jimmy would visit our home and teach us valuable information. We were his hunting helpers, sent into the bushes to scare up birds or deer. He’d tell us stories about the world around us. He taught us about gardening, planting, and harvesting. He showed us a water spring where we’d get water.

The fondest memory I have is waking up to the smell of breakfast, bacon, and eggs cooking on a cool midwinter day. Everyone was excited. The school bus came around 6:30 am, so we’d woke up early to enjoy that smell. It was a great way to start the day.

As we got ready, I saw Grandpa finishing up the eggs and preparing the dog dish. He put the eggs in the bacon and grease on top of the dog food and mixed it up. I asked, “Grandpa, where’s our breakfast?” He said, “This food is for the dog. It’s getting cold out. We have to keep up his fur.”

I laughed because I expected a nice breakfast, but his teachings were important. I never thought about the dog or the fur or the protein needed to keep the dog warm. Those are the things I’ll remember: to think beyond myself and remember my loved ones.

Love you, Grandpa. Thank you for everything.
