Carlene Peltier

Carlene C. Walking Eagle-Peltier, age 53 of Grand Forks, ND was born on October 26, 1972, in Devils Lake, ND to Carl Sr. and Barbara (Cavanaugh) Walking Eagle. Carlene was a beautiful, young, and courageous women who faced her health battles with quiet strength and grace until she couldn’t fight no longer. She passed peacefully away on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Carlene graduated high school in 1991 and went on and received an AAS from Lake Region and later moved to Grand Forks to pursue a Nursing degree, but unfortunately health issues got in the way and she never returned to finish. Carlene met the love of her life, Doug Peltier, in August of 1996. After many years of shared life, love, and devotion, they were married on April 20, 2013. Together they were blessed with three children- Brennon, Brelyn, and Brenner, and later they also lovingly raised a little girl named Kayonni. Carlene and Doug established their home in Grand Forks along with their children. Carlene found her greatest joy in watching her children grow and reach their milestones. She was also a proud grandmother of two beautiful granddaughters, Avanna and Lilah, who brought her endless happiness and light. Carlene treasured time spent visiting with family and friends and shared a special bond with her mother, speaking with her every day on the telephone until her mother’s recent passing. This loss brought Carlene a deep heartbreak. When her health allowed, she enjoyed visiting casinos and found comfort in simple pleasures, including watching her favorite Bravo shows. She also loved selling her Paparazzi jewelry, spending countless hours carefully organizing her pieces and joyfully showing them to others. Her faith was a constant source of strength-she prayed her rosary daily, often holding it tightly, wrapped around her hand, a symbol of her unwavering devotion and peace.

She is survived by her husband: Doug Peltier of Grand Forks, ND; children: Brennon (Kelsey), Brelyn, Brenner and Kayonni all of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren: Avanna and Lilah Peltier of Grand Forks, ND; siblings: Curtis and Carl Jr. Walking Eagle both of Fort Totten, ND and Benny Wayne of Jamestown, ND; several uncles, aunts and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Carl Sr. and Barbara Walking Eagle; sisters: Rochelle and Carletta Walking Eagle; paternal grandparents: Anthony and Grace Walking Eagle; maternal grandparents: Michael and Irene Cavanaugh; and nephew, Michael Walking Eagle.

Special thank you to all who loved and prayed for her.

Carlene’s Visitation will be Thursday, January 15, 2026 at 9:00AM with a Rosary at 9:30AM and her Funeral Service at 10:00AM all at St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Michael, ND.

Her Burial will be at the Walking Eagle Family Cemetery.
