Norman Seil
Norman Seil, age 72, of Sykeston, North Dakota, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at his home following a long battle with cancer.
Norman Neil Seil was born on April 19, 1953, in Carrington, North Dakota, to Victor and Margaret (Grant) Seil. Norman, or Goat, as most friends and family knew him, was the fifth of nine children and was raised south of Heaton, North Dakota. The Seil family also welcomed three cousins, Raymond, Dave, and Judy, into their home after the passing of their mother.
Norman attended school in Heaton and Sykeston and joined the Army in 1970. After leaving the Army, he lived in Kansas for several years before moving back to the Sykeston area in 1976. Norman was united in marriage to Julie Neumiller on October 14, 1977, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sykeston. Norman and Julie farmed and made their home south of Heaton and were blessed with three children: Arick in 1982, Maggie in 1985, and Carly in 1987.
In 1993, the Seil family moved into Pettibone, North Dakota, for a couple of years before relocating to Cavalier, North Dakota, where Julie began her career as a registered nurse. Norman began working for Mayo Construction Company in 1994 and continued working for Mayo until his retirement in 2019. After retiring, Norman helped several local farmers with their spring and fall work, and mowed the Sykeston Cemetery, a job in which he took great pride.
Norman enjoyed playing cards, dancing, watching Jeopardy, and being with his family. His greatest joy was his granddaughters, Winnie and Betty. He loved watching them grow, and especially loved teasing them and making them laugh.
Norman will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 48 years, Julie, Sykeston; daughters, Maggie Seil (Mark), Sykeston, and Carly (Ryan) Raftevold, Fergus Falls, Minnesota; granddaughters, Winnie and Betty, Fergus Falls; brothers, Don (Sue), Clinton, Iowa, Jim (Michele), Heaton, Vic Jr., Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Steve (Brenda), Heaton; sisters, Cathy (Curt), Eagan, Minnesota, Carol, Canyon, Texas, Becky, Chandler, Arizona, Deb (Larry), Fargo, North Dakota; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Norman was preceded in death by his son, Arick; parents, Victor and Margaret; parents-in-law, Paul and Edna Neumiller; nephew, Chad Neumiller; niece, Shanna Seil; and cousin, Dave Miller.
Norman’s Visitation will be Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 12:00-1:00PM followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00PM all at Grace Lutheran Church, Carrington.
His Burial will be at the Sykeston Cemetery.

Sorry to hear about Norman. He had a tough battle. Not quite sure how he got the nickname GOAT, but consider it an honor as GOAT these days is symbolic of Greatest Of All Times.

Julie, my sincere condolences to you and your family. I never met Goat but feel I knew him through face book and
you could see how much he loved you, his daughters and his grandchildren. My heart hurts for you and your family. I just know he is free of suffering and he is with his son in heaven having root beer shakes together. Our
deepest sympathy and condolences to you and your family.
My deepest sympathies to your family. It is hard to fathom that uncle Goat is gone. I imagine that there is a tremendous reunion happening in heaven with Erick.
A Warrior in His Own Way
Goat was born on a North Dakota spring day
He was known for doing things his own way
Years went by, Goat became an Army man
Goat worked hard, giving as only he can
Steady always, you could depend on him
When times were happy, when they were grim
Didn’t take long until he met a special girl
He and beautiful Julie gave dating a whirl
Soon they married, had a family and were glad
Arick, Maggie and Carly dearly loved Mom and Dad
I was one of the of the ones that didn’t even know it,
But Goat had been a longtime heart and soul poet!
Along came two grands, Winnie and Betty, sweet girls,
Goat and Julie both a wonderful part of their worlds
Since Goat was a strong warrior in his own way,
When he got sick, he fought back day by day
We who have loved Goat will always miss him so
Goat lived life well, he lives on~to Lord’s care he did go
Scriptures teach we are the soul within
Goat has gone to the Lord, a new life to begin
With love and gratitude for having loved Goat.
He was always so kind to me and to Rishi, as this
entire kind and lovely family has always been.
