Dawn Tufte, age 40, of Jamestown, ND, formerly of Carrington, ND, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at her home in Jamestown.

Dawn Elizabeth Chepulis was born on April 2, 1985, in Devils Lake, ND, the daughter of Paul and Elaine (Thomas) Chepulis. She attended school in Devils Lake and graduated from Devils Lake High School. She went on to attend Lake Region State College and graduated with an Administrative Assistant degree in 2005. During this time, she met the love of her life, Brandon Tufte.

Dawn and Brandon were united in marriage on September 22, 2007, in Carrington. Together, they were blessed with three children: Alexander, Melody, and Spencer. The family made their home in Carrington, where Dawn was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and sang in the community choir. Her family meant the world to her, and she cherished every moment she had with them. In 2017, Dawn and Brandon lost their beautiful children in a devastating house fire. Dawn and Brandon leaned on their faith to navigate the road ahead. Dawn kept busy by furthering her education at Lake Region State College and graduated with a degree in Business Management in 2019. Dawn and Brandon then moved to Jamestown, where she worked at the North Dakota State Hospital.

Dawn had many hobbies that she enjoyed, including latch hook, singing, fishing, camping, and spending time with her husband and three dogs: Sam, Maggie, and Odin. Dawn was known for her giving heart and caring nature. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her loving husband, Brandon, Jamestown; parents, Paul and Elaine, Devils Lake; sisters, Karen (Gary) Eback, Devils Lake, and Nicole Faine, Devils Lake; father and mother-in-law, Mike and Harriet Tufte, Carrington; sister-in-law, Sabrina Tufte, West Fargo; brother-in-law, Michael J. (Megan) Tufte, Prairie City, IA; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was greeted in heaven by her loving children, Alexander, Melody, and Spencer; grandparents, Frank and Jean Chepulis, and Nick and Lena Thomas.

Dawn’s Visitation will be Sunday, May 4, 2025, from 4:00PM-6:00PM followed by a Prayer Service at 6:00PM all at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

  2. I am so saddened by this news. I was blessed to have Dawn as a student when she was in 8 th grade AND when she came to LRSC for her second degree. I reminded her of a gift she gave me in 8th grade—- a pair of heart earrings. So like her!
I was thrilled that she received the LRSC Writing Award that year for her moving poetry.
I send my deepest sympathies to all of you —- may she truly rest in peace. I am comforted knowing God’s loving arms reached out to bring her to His home🥲🙏
