Myrna was born March 29, 1932 in McHenry, ND to Clarence E. and Emma H. (Gunderson) Leir the middle of three children.  Myrna lived her entire life in McHenry.

Myrna was educated at McHenry Public School and participated in school activities, including basketball where she got her high school nickname “Lefty”.  She played in the state tournament in Carrington and placed 5th.  The team was forced to travel to the tournament via an airplane equipped with skis due to a recent snowstorm.

Following High School, she married Charles “Chuck” Aasand when he returned from the Korean War. They started raising their six children at their home on Wilsey St. Myrna had always hoped to become a nurse but instead she nursed her children’s bumps and bruises.

Myrna enjoyed cooking, baking, cleaning and canning food from her garden. Her favorite time of the year was harvest time. She checked the fields to see how her men were progressing and brought them lunch in the field. Deer season was nearly a national holiday at the Aasand house and she loved cooking for the hunters and could tell hunting stories with the best of them.

Myrna loved pets and the Aasand house was home to numerous dogs, many cats, goldfish and a rabbit named Bradley. Her latest cat was a rescue cat named Gypsy who now lives with her grandson.

Due to health issues she entered Golden Acres Manor in September of 2021.
