Tennille Baker

Tennille Dawn Baker, 44, Kakpa-wina (Crumbling Woman) of Spirit Lake Nation passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2021 in Devils Lake, ND.

Tennille Baker was born November 16, 1976 in Devils Lake, ND, the daughter of Connie Baker and Kirk Johnson. She grew up in Spirit Lake and attended school there.  Tennille had a very caring, outgoing, upbeat, humorous personality.  She was very comical, like to joke around, and quite the teaser, especially when she was excited and happy to see you.

She was a very good cook, enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, nieces and nephews, watching Minnesota Vikings, along with small talk and laughing.  Tennille also liked going rummaging, playing at the casino, she liked cruising around and jamming out.  At the age of seven, she danced fancy shawl for a short time.  One of her proudest moments was when her son Jason and his team, the Four Winds Indians won the State Class B Basketball Championship in 2015-16 and Jason was chosen for Mr. Basketball.  Tennille was baptized in 1978 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church and was honored to have the late Evalina & Sylvester Jetty as Godparents.  Tennille was a very avid ICE eater!

Tennille is survived by her children and loving family, Elisha (Manny Medicine Stone) Baker, Jason Feather Jr., Jace Feather, Bill Brown Jr., and Taylor Baker; mother, Connie Baker; father, Kirk Johnson; brothers, Clark Baker and Coby Red Day; step-brother, Douglas Lonebear; sisters, Chantell Red Day, Kayla Red Day, and Frances Red Day; step-sisters, Wambdi Eaglestaff and Dakota Lonebear; nine grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many aunts and uncles.
