Donald Barnett

Donald L. Barnett, age 85, New Rockford, ND, passed away Friday, March 29, 2019, at the Garrison Memorial Hospital – CHI St. Alexius, Garrison, ND.

Donald Lee Barnett was born December 11, 1933 at Kenmare, ND, the son of Moses Sherman and Mildred (Marum) Barnett.  He grew up near Donnybrook, ND and attended school there and in Minot.  He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956.  After being discharged from the Army, Donald married Mary McGuire on June 23, 1956, in Valley City, ND.   He attended the Bismarck Trade School for Auto Body Repair. They lived in several North Dakota Communities including Valley City, Bottineau, Stanley, and New Rockford, where he did auto body repair.

Donald loved to go fishing, gardening, and growing flowers.  He enjoyed listening to music, playing guitar, telling jokes and visiting with anyone.  He liked to reminisce about the good ol’ days. 

Donald is survived by his children, Michael Barnett, Hope, ND; Bill Barnett, Red Lake Falls, MN; Jeremy Barnett, Bismarck, ND; Jackie (Mike) Williams, New Rockford, ND; Jane Higgins, Minot, ND; Sally Kofoid, Hope, ND; Dawn (Marlan) Engstrom, Minot, ND; Sue (Donavon) Olson, and Jenny (Matt) Andel, both of West Fargo, ND;  24 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ray Barnett, Washington State and Gary Barnett, Minot, ND and sister, Dorothy Allhouse,  Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Moses and Mildred Barnett; wife, Mary in 2000; daughters, Cheryl and Rochelle; three grandchildren; brothers, George Barnett, Dale Barnett, and Eddy Barnett and sisters, Joyce Neether and Elaine Haider.

Visitation:  will be one hour prior to the service. 

Funeral Service:  will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford, ND. 

Burial:  will be in Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford, ND.

  3. Jane my heart aches for you❣💔 Also your sister, your kids and grandkids❣ Who really loved and help take care of your dad❣ I pray for the ones that didn’t. May God hold you and the palm of his hand, as you go through this time of your life. Sorry I won’t be there to hug you at your dad’s funeral.

  4. It’s been crazy this year, Grandpa. Things will get better in a few years I hear from Auntie Dawn (I hope she is right and I think she is). I hope you get to fish in beautiful weather and see again in heaven.

    If you wanted to and if she wanted to, I hope you and Grandma found each other and are getting along well.

    Desirae and Devan both had babies recently! Ashley and Amber (also has a baby with Diane’s boy) have their kids too it’s crazy! No kids in my home yet: I just haven’t been quite ready. All the babies are pretty cool and seem to be healthy.

    I love you, and you are missed.

  5. I know I am responding very late but I just want to say I miss you so much grandpa! I hope you get to see grandma in heaven! I hope you know that you are loved and missed so so much and I will pray for you!
