William “Bill” Barnett

William (Bill) Joseph Barnett, age 58, of New Rockford, ND, formerly Madison, Minnesota, died peacefully in his home on Friday, January 19, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born in Aitkin, Minnesota, on March 8, 1965, the son of Donald and Mary (McGuire) Barnett. He grew up in New Rockford, ND, attending school there. After graduating from New Rockford High School, he then moved to Bottineau, ND. Later in life, Bill moved to Stanley, ND, where he married Darcy Rehak and they were blessed with four children, Cassandra, Ashlee, Cody, and Kalynn. Bill worked as a General Laborer and painted homes. Bill was remarried to Kristin Reishus and together they resided in Canby, Minnesota; they then found a new home in Madison, Minnesota, and enjoyed life there.

Bill had many hobbies such as fishing, camping, and collecting antiques. He enjoyed spending as much time as he could outdoors. Bill enjoyed painting so much that it became his occupation. Spending time with his family is always something he would cherish as he looked forward to any family gathering, especially Christmas. Board games were something he grew fond of as he liked to win. Bill had a big love for animals, especially dogs. You could often find him watching movies and enjoying a bowl of his favorite ice cream.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Mary Barnett; his daughter, Ashlee, and son, Cody; and his sisters, Cheryl, Rochelle, Jane, and Sally.

He is survived by his wife, Kristin Barnett, Canby, Minnesota; daughters, Cassandra Russell, Williston, ND, and Kalyan Hudson, Minot, ND; sisters, Jackie (Mike) Williams, New Rockford, ND, Dawn Engstrom, New Rockford, ND, Sue (Don) Olson, West Fargo, ND, Jenny (Cody) Duncan, West Fargo, ND; brothers, Mike Barnett, Bismarck, ND, and Jeremy Barnett, Mandan, ND; six grandchildren, Angelina Barnett, Dominique Velo, Devan Castillo, Anya Hudson, Ava Hudson, and Tyrel Osborne.

Bill was a very kind and loving person, with a wonderful smile, a big heart, and a great sense of humor. He will be missed by many.

Bill’s Visitation will be Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 1:00PM with a Funeral Service at 2:00PM, all at the First Congregational Church, New Rockford, ND.

  5. Jackie and the entire family. I am so sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. I have to admit, it was a little different seeing Bill in print vs. Billy, which was how I remember him.
