Dorothy Bauer

Dorothy Augusta Bauer, age 92, Carrington, ND passed away on March 31, 2021 at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, ND.

Dorothy was born on November 6, 1928 in Wahpeton, ND to Carl Sr. and Augusta (Pedersen) Hansen. Dorothy grew up on the family farm near Hankinson, ND.  She attended a one-room schoolhouse, Greendale Township #4, grades 1-8.  She graduated from the Morris Agriculture High School, Morris, Minnesota.  Following high school, she attended and graduated from NDSCS, Wahpeton.

On October 19, 1948, Dorothy married Merle Floyd Bauer of McClusky, ND, in Wahpeton. This union was blessed with a son, Micheal. They were married for 60 years.

After 31 years at Bremer Bank, Dorothy retired as assistant vice president of real estate and consumer loan officer. During her banking career, she served as director of the Jamestown Chapter BAI, a banking organization.

Dorothy was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Her faith was very important in her life. Along with women’s groups, she participated in the church choir for more than 40 years.

Dorothy loved music and was very gifted. She exceled at playing piano and organ, which was quite an accomplishment since she couldn’t read notes and played everything by ear. She believed each life is a song. One of her favorite inscriptions written by Charles F. Little, Jr.  “A life is like a song we write, in our own tone and key. Each life we touch reflects a note that forms the melody. We choose the theme and chorus of the song to bear our name, and each will have a special sound. No two can be the same. When someone we love departs, in memory we find their song plays on within the hearts of those we leave behind.” Dorothy wrote a song for Merle in 1979 and had it copyrighted.

Dorothy is survived by several loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle; son, Micheal; siblings Carl Hansen, Luella Hahn, Lorenz Hansen, Lavon Luhman, and Leona Steele.

Dorothy was a kind-hearted person who loved her family, friends and community with her whole heart.  God bless her beautiful memory.

Memorials can be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington, ND or the Carrington Cemetery in memory of Dorothy.

Her Visitation will be Saturday, April 10, 2021, from 9:30AM-10:30AM followed by a Funeral Service at 10:30AM all at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington, ND.

Her Burial will be at the Carrington Cemetery.
