Herman Brandt

Herman Dean Brandt, age 68, of McHenry, ND died, Sunday, March 5, 2023.

Herman was born on May 4, 1954 to Paul and Janet (Gunning) Brandt in New Rockford, ND.  Herman grew up on a farm outside of McHenry with his three brothers, where his love of farming and hunting began.  He graduated in 1972 from McHenry high School and attended college at NDSCS in Wahpeton, ND.

In 1988 Herman met Paula Miska and on February 14, 1995 they said “I do”.  Herman farmed with his three brothers, David (Kathy), John (Susie) and Roy (Iris) Brandt until 1997. He then started a new journey working for Busch Agriculture, up to presently when he continued his work within agriculture.  Herman had a contagious laugh and loved to tell stories, making him a guy people just loved to sit with.  Whether play cards or watching sports, he always had something to say.

He is survived by his wife, Paula; three daughters, Jackie Brandt, Tiffany (Shawn) Peterson and Ashley (Dustin) Abraham; a son, Lance (Nicki) Schumacher; nine grandchildren, Everett, Charlie, Ezra, Paxton, Vance, Quinn, Kori, Waylon and Azalea; two nieces, Stacy (Jeff), Ronningen, Ashley (Shawn) Duda; a sister-in-law Paulette (Les) Hoyt four nephews, Jeremy (Tonya) Brandt, Shannon Brandt, Montana Hoyt and Dakota (Molly) Hoyt.

Herman is preceded in death by his parents, Paul (Janet) Brandt, his in-laws Marvin (Evie) Miska and one grandchild baby Schumacher.

Herman’s Visitation will be Wednesday, March 8, 2023 from 1:00PM-2:00PM followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00PM all at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, McHenry, ND.

A Burial will be at a later date.

  8. Paula and family – Thoughts and prayers with all of you as you grieve the loss of Herman. He was such a nice and sweet guy. I am so glad I was able to visit with you at our little get together last fall – a treasured memory for sure. Herman was my “frogger” buddy in Colorado – a great memory for me – I don’t think he ever really understood the “frogger” game on Nintendo, but . . . I will miss visiting with him. May you all be blessed with great memories – hold on to those – it will help!

  23. Condolences to the Brandt family from cousin Gus, official name “Herman” Gustav Mueller. My grandfather Carl Brandt Sr. was Herman’s great-grandfather. We’ve lost touch over the years, but it could be the last time I saw Herman was in 1962, when the entire Ryder Babe Ruth baseball team slept over in the hay loft of the Brandt barn. Good times (we lost the game the next day). In the 1950s, a visit to McHenry each year was my family’s summer vacation.
