Samuel Laurence Cloud II (White Buffalo Cloud ~ Mahpiya TaTanka Ska) was born on June 27, 1970, in Devils Lake, ND, to Cheryl Cloud (GoodIron) and Lawrence Green. He began his journey to the spirit world on August 17, 2024 at Rolling Hills, Fort Totten, ND. He died a hero saving his youngest son from harm.

Sam was named after his great-grandfather, Sam Cloud. He was the first great-grandchild. Sam attended Wahpeton, Flandreau, Job Corps, and Four Winds, where he was the first and only person to shatter a backboard. Sam was an elite basketball player and had a love for the sport. He was always on the move and worked various jobs throughout his life. His many passions led him to travel, living in multiple states during his time here on earth. Sam had a passion for cooking. If he wasn’t sharing his recipes, he was telling you how to cook. He was a gentle soul and very polite. He was very generous and always willing to give what he had. He was known as our own family MacGyver. He was always smiling and joking with everyone. He never said goodbye without giving a warm hug and saying “I love you.”

Sam was a very proud and loving father. He had his first son in 1989 and lost his second in 1990. Soon after he welcomed three beautiful daughters and five more amazing sons. He was also a grandfather to six wonderful grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Stephen, Shawna, Samantha, Sami Jo, Ashton, Austin, Storm, Samson, and Xander; grandchildren, Vanessa, Tyshawn, Shaylee, Shanel, Taylor, and Enzo; sisters, Cassandra Cloud, Kristi (Robert) Thompson, JoNell Charboneau, Roselyn (Jerry) LeNoir, Lori (Frank) Gourd, Jacquie (George) DeMarce, Jocelyn Holy Bear, Angie (Joe) Garcia, and Bobbi Dunn; brothers, George Alberts, Dale (Jessica) Alberts, Maurice Alberts, Phillip Alberts, and Robert Charboneau Jr.; step-dad, Robert Charboneau Sr.; aunts, Myra Pearson, Betty Doll Smith, Candy Volk, Connie Rainbow, Tammy Littlewind, and Angel Bergrude; uncles, Terry Alex and Terry Morgan; grandparents, Delbert Cloud and Corrine Cloud; also many cousins, nieces, nephews; and special friend, Erlinda McKay.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Cheryl and Larry; his son, Michael Ray; his brother, Shawn Charboneau Sr.; many grandparents; uncles; aunts; cousins, Cherilu Pearson, Reno Littleghost, Jennifer Dethmers; nephew, Kendrick Pearson; many nieces; Sam Cloud had a very large family.

Samuel’s Wake/Visitation will be Wednesday, at 5:00PM followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00PM all at Fort Totten Rec. Center, Fort Totten, ND.

Friends wishing to join the procession from New Rockford to Fort Totten may gather on the St. Jerome’s road, Fort Totten, prior to 4:15PM.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 10:00AM at Fort Totten Rec. Center, Fort Totten, ND.

His Burial will be at the Lighthouse Assembly of God Cemetery, Fort Totten, ND.

  2. Aww, Sam, this is so unreal and I can’t believe you’re gone. :'( You gave me three beautiful children and a handsome grandson so please watch over them and the rest of your family. Lord, please give my kids the strength to help them get through these difficult days ahead and to wrap your loving arms around them. <3

  6. so sad of you gone home when takoja was a security at the old elderly when I come back late he’d say’s lady you have to get off and walk the line or if I’m going out I always tell him I’m going to get my night cap he always says if you need a driver call me than he really laughs

Sending my condolences to my relative, Sam I remember the good times we had growing up together u and Terry Morgan us kids running through the woods at night playing, u taught me so much when we was growing up, it’s been many yrs since I seen u.
