Eileen Dockter

Eileen Dockter, age 82, of New Rockford, ND, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 12, 2020, at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford.

Eileen Louise was born February 8, 1938, on the family farm near McHenry, ND, to Clarence and Emma (Overby) Haakenson.  Eileen’s childhood years were spent on the family farm near McHenry, where she attended school until the eighth grade.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith where her love for God began.  Growing up on a farm, there was always work to be done and where she developed her strong work ethic, that continued throughout her life.

As a young adult, Eileen attended dances at area halls and at one particular dance, her sister, Marlys and her boyfriend, Merlin, brought along a friend by the name of Jim.  Eileen and Jim were introduced to one another and began what would be their life’s story.  Jim found her to be friendly and easy to talk with and asked her to dance.  On the way to taking the girls home, he asked her for a date.  On October 20, 1962, they were united in marriage.  Eileen held several jobs throughout her life, including, housekeeping and babysitting for various families, Swift’s Co., Jordan’s Steakhouse and dietary aide at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd for over 30 years.  She was a member of First Lutheran Church, New Rockford.  Her hobby was spending time with family.

Her most important jobs and the ones she was most proud of were being a devoted wife and extraordinary mother and grandmother.  She loved everyone unconditionally and was proud of all.  She was kind, caring, warm, understanding, compassionate and most of all loving.  You felt her love and warmth just by being around her.  Having her family around was something she loved.  She had all the time in the world for laughter, hugs, kisses and kind words.  No one was ever a bother.  She will especially be remembered for having the best Rice Krispie bars, everyone else’s were just not “Grandma” worthy.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her for her gentle spirit, positive attitude and warm and kind smile.

Eileen is survived by her husband, Jim; sons, Jeffrey Haakenson, Edgeley, ND, James (Karla) Dockter and Terry (Colleen) Dockter all of New Rockford; daughter, Charlene Gilliss, Waubun, MN and son-in-law, Joe Seiler, New Rockford; sixteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Borthwick, Jamestown, ND; sisters-in-law, Helen Duda, Marjory Bohnet, Shirley Pederson and Janet Banning; one brother-in-law, Eulis Rogers and several nieces and nephews.

Welcoming Eileen in heaven are her parents; son, Kyle; daughter, Kimberly Seiler; grandson, Rodney Haakenson; brothers, Clifford, Stanley and Donald “Buddy”; sisters, Beatrice Maisel, Clarice Borthwick, Dorothy Haakenson and Marlys Williams and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.

Her Visitation will be Tuesday, Noon-5:00PM at Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.

A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, September 16, 2020, at 1:00PM at Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford, ND.
(If you would like seating please bring a chair and wear a mask for others safety.)

Her Burial will be at the Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford.

What a sweet lady! Eileen will surely be missed. I am so thankful for her sweet smile. She really enjoyed our singing time together and our devotional times on the Unit. She was very encouraging. I will miss her so.

  11. Very sad to hear of Eileen’s passing. I spent many hours at Dockter’s house with Kim. I’m sure Eileen tired of us always running in and out of their house, but she was always so kind and just let us be kids. She rescued me from Sparky on the porch numerous times! I remember in particular a window ledge in their dining room with her flowers on it; for some reason I always had to touch the cactus! I’m not sure I remember Eileen being anywhere else in the house except for the kitchen, and maybe outside; she was such a good mom and so devoted to caring for her family. A tremendous loss. Condolences to the entire family!
