Sidney Francis King, 86, Sunrise – September 17th, 1934 to Sunset – December 8th, 2020 (Last One Coming, Ehake U).

Sidney started his journey back to the spirit world on Tuesday, December 8th, 2020. He was surrounded by prayer and love while he made his transition. Sidney was born at the old hospital in Fort Totten, ND to Mary Lohnes/King and Jerome King. Sidney started his education at the Fort Totten School and then would later continue on to Blue Cloud Abbey in Marvin, South Dakota. Sidney was enlisted into the army at age 19 and found his place in the airborne unit as a Paratrooper. He held this duty for 6 years and throughout two wars; Korean and Vietnam War. Sidney started his life after the army in Denver, Colorado where he met his wife Melita. He worked many years at a Jewish all-girls school doing maintenance and was also an HVAC Technician. Sidney was a Traditional Dancer all his life, he enjoyed dancing, singing and surrounded himself thru the powwow trail. One of his favorite places was the Denver March Powwow where he was on the color guard. Sidney spent his last years back home in Spirit Lake and was able to bond with his great grandson, Acie. They enjoyed visiting and sharing conversation together. Sidney was also able to reconnect with the community and enjoy his time back in his hometown with close friends and family.

Survived by Sidney is many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sidney was preceded in death by his wife, Melita King; Mother, Mary Lohnes-King; Father, Jerome King; Brothers, Vincent King, Frederick King, Duane King, and Wayne King; Sisters, Barbara Jean King, Annette Smith and Juanita Frederick-Vargas.

“The family sends out our absolute appreciation to all family close and near who are not able to attend the services. We understand completely and we extend our thank you for your donations and prayers.” 

Wake will be Monday, December 14, 2020 at 5:00PM followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00PM all at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Fort Totten, ND.

Friends wishing to join the procession from New Rockford to Fort Totten may gather on the St. Jerome’s road, Fort Totten, prior to 4:15PM.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 2:00PM at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Fort Totten, ND.

Burial will be at the St. Michael Cemetery, St. Michael, ND.

  3. I used to help him at devil’s lake nursing home. He had a sense of humor. He made me smile or laugh when I helped him during the night shift.
    One night during my rounds, I accidentally woke him. He said “Thank you for waking me up! I was having a nightmare. My wife was in the middle of giving birth to 5 babies!.” Lol thank you for making us smile and scaring us when you had to holler around 🙂 safe journey home to the spirit world
