Wilma Alice Kurtz, age 90, of rural New Rockford, ND, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND, with family by her side.

Wilma was born on June 30, 1932, the daughter of Burdett and Eva (Fread) Kurtz. She was raised and attended Sheldon Country School; Wilma then attended New Rockford High School, where she graduated. She went on to be the Eddy County Superintendent and was the Secretary at the New Rockford School from 1976 until retirement.

She had a love for flowers and could often be found tending to her flower beds during the summer months. Wilma also enjoyed animals; especially her dogs and cats that she cared for dearly. Wilma loved to fly with her nephew, Jay and her adventuresome spirit took them to many exciting places. She had many miles left in the tank for adventure even after hitting 85 years old.

Wilma is survived by her nephews, Jay Topp, Randy Kurtz, Lonnie Kurtz, and Butch Kurtz; two nieces, Judy Mechtle, and Eve McAvoy; many cousins; and Baby Cat and Annie Dog.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Arnold Kurtz; four sister, Francis Pearl McAvoy, Wanda Lee Kurtz, Marion Agnes Mechtle, and Phyllis Burdetta Topp; and two nephews, Joseph McAvoy and Don McAvoy.

Wilma’s Visitation will be Wednesday, June 14, 2023 from 12:30PM-1:30PM at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington followed by a Graveside Service at 2:00PM at Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford, ND.

  1. She was wonderful lady who enjoyed staying up to date with computer technology. When you came to her house the first thing was to greet you and then,do you want a cup of coffee. I enjoyed my visits with her and will miss them. Rest in peace with your sisters.

  2. Wilma’s Family: As a faculty member of the New Rockford Public School from 1974 – 1981, I had the pleasure of working with Wilma. She was super organized, always had a smile and greeting, extremely helpful, and simply efficient and effective as the office administrator. Wilma was a wonderful individual who could be counted on personally and professionally. Blessings as you celebrate Wilma’s earthly life and now her eternal life. To Wilma . . . thank you and rest in peace faithful servant.
