Marion Larson

Marion LaVonne Larson passed away peacefully on February 17, 2022, two days short of her 87th birthday, at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, surrounded by family.

Marion was born February 19,1935 to Oscar and Alma (Ronning) Fossen in Harvey, ND, the youngest of 3 children. She attended school at the Arne Country School in Maddock and High School at Benson County Agriculture Training School, receiving a Teachers Diploma and taught at the Valhalla Township Country School, (grades 1-8) for 2 years before meeting and marrying Ralph Larson on January 14th, 1955. Together on the Larson family farm in Bremen, they raised 9 children.

They enjoyed the farm life, needless to say raising 9 kids kept them busy. They also enjoyed spending a lot of good times with their wonderful Bremen country friends playing cards, especially Whist, potluck suppers and the annual Christmas julebukking tradition. They also treasured the family get togethers. Many fond memories were made from all these occasions. She enjoyed music and always looked forward to the musical events at the New Rockford Steam Threshers that her and Ralph faithfully attended, along with listening to the Sunday Polka party on 1130 Radio Station, which they never missed. Marion loved to visit and would call to check on her family frequently, if not daily. She always looked forward to the holidays and many birthday celebrations that the family had. When you visited her there was never ending coffee, cookies and doughnuts. She was an active member of the Augustana Lutheran Church in rural Sheyenne until it closed, then joined Grace Lutheran in Sheyenne.

Ralph passed in 1994, and after that Marion moved into New Rockford and lived there until she moved to Mayville in 2018.

She is survived by five sons Loren (Joan) Larson, Fargo, Bradley (Becky) Larson, Devils Lake, Kent (Valerie) Larson, Dickinson, Kevin (Jodi) Larson, Fargo and Curtis (Martha) Larson, New Rockford, three daughters Marilyn (Steve) Aanderud, Hillsboro, Melanie (Jeff) Irwin, West Fargo and Becky (Jim) Edinger, Mayville, 21 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Linda Larson and many nieces and nephews.

Marion is preceded in death by her husband Ralph, a son Ronald, grandson Rocky Littlewind, her parents Oscar and Alma Fossen, sister Adeline (Martin) Anderson, brother Sigvart (Agnes) Fossen, Ralph’s parents August and Blenda Larson, Ralph’s sisters Laverne (Clarence) Moe and Bernice (Arvid) Fransen, brothers Wendell Larson and Merle (Ardeth) Larson.

Her life was a blessing, memories are a treasure, she will be missed beyond measure.

Marion’s Visitation will be Friday, February 25, 2022 from 10:00AM – 11:00AM followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00AM all at First Lutheran Church, New Rockford.

Her Burial will be at the Augustana Lutheran Cemetery, rural Sheyenne, ND.

As I watch your Mom’s funeral I am reminded of the fun we had on the farm and reunions, her cookies and treats, her beautiful voice, her wonderful laugh and her love of family. I am so sad for all of you and wish I was there to hug each one of you. It’s so hard to loose a parent but we can be comforted by all the memories we have and to know that she and your Dad are once again reunited. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Love, Joanne

  20. I was able to know Marion during her first years in Mayville’s Luther Memorial Home when my husband was a resident there. Visits with Marion were some of the best moments while spending time with my husband Jim. Marion’s generous smile, especially when talking about any of her family members, made my heart smile too. Her deep love for each and every one shone through. I think I got on her good side because I had the privilege of teaching her two grandchildren Preston and Hannah. All I had to do was mention them and I was welcomed in 😀
I just wanted to extend my condolences to each of you as you realize life without her here, but I also wanted to say how deeply she loved each of you and how very proud she was of you. You are blessed to have had such a wonderful cheerleader in your lives. May God bless you with memories that warm your hearts for many years to come.
