Brett Lyman, age 27, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024, in rural Wing, ND.

Brett Harvey Lyman was born on November 14, 1997, in Jamestown, ND to Scott and Colette (Christianson) Lyman, joining his big brother, Dustin. His little brother, Nic, completed the family in 2002.

As a child, Brett had no fear, enjoying riding dirt bike, snowmobiling, and hunting; which he was always excited to report back about the hunt for the day. He had his BB gun with him and ready at all times. He also found his love for baseball at a young age and began his baseball career playing t-ball with the Midkota Mustangs. Through his years at Carrington Elementary School, he was active in youth football and Pitcrew wrestling (as his Dad fibbed a little on his age initially to join). He also enjoyed video games, but not as much as being active in the outdoors. As a child, Brett always insisted that his entire class was invited to his birthday parties, as he never wanted anyone to be left out.

Through Carrington High School, Brett’s love for sports continued, being active in football, wrestling, and baseball. His passion for hunting also continued to grow and he looked forward to each hunting season. Brett also became a Harley Davidson fan just like his dad. During the summer months, you would find Brett hanging out at Lake Juanita with Gramps and Grams and he always looked forward to the Annual Labor Day and Wishy/Washy Tournament.

Brett graduated in 2016 from Carrington High School, with his love of baseball continuing, by playing centerfield and perfecting his knuckle ball. Before games, he worked his fingernails for hours if he was pitching that day. Brett was so proud to be part of the Carrington Legion baseball team, aka “The Team of Dreams”. Following his high school baseball career, Brett joined his brother, Dustin, on the Carrington Softball team, becoming State Champions in 2017 and 2020.

Brett attended the University of North Dakota for two years prior to Northland Community College to become an electrician. During his time there, he walked onto the baseball team and proved his spot by hitting a Home Run at his first game, first at bat. Brett graduated from Northland in 2020 with an Associate’s Degree as an electrician, being on the Presidents List. He became a Journeyman in February of 2023. Brett was always a hard-working person with jobs throughout high school and beginning his electrician career with Gussiaas Electric.

Brett soon found the love of his life, Karlie Kershaw, and moved to the Bismarck area, where he was currently employed with RK Electric. Brett and Karlie soon discovered that their family was expanding and he began working hard on their new home on Karlie’s family farm.

On December 1, 2022, Brett earned the title of Dad to Landon, and he was so proud. On December 24, 2023, Brett popped the question; both Karlie and Brett were anxious to continue to grow their family with Ella joining them on March 7, 2024. Brett loved his family and worked hard to ensure their future. He enjoyed helping out on the Kershaw family farm. Brett continued his love for hunting, football (Minnesota Vikings & Texas Longhorns), but most of all loved coming home to Carrington for the weekend to spend time with his brothers.

Brett had a heavenly welcome by his grandfathers, Harvey Lyman and Denis Christianson.

Brett’s infectious smile will be missed by his children, Landon and Ella; fiancée, Karlie Kershaw; parents, Scott and Colette Lyman; brothers, Dustin and Nic; grandparents, Todd and Rayette Lyman, Sharon Rigaard; in-laws Bill and Karen Kershaw, Carter (Claire) Kershaw, and Trevor (Mariah) Kershaw; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

His Visitation will be Tuesday, December 3, 2024, from 1:00PM- 4:00PM at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington, and will continue at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington from 5:00PM – 6:00PM, followed by a Prayer Service at 6:00PM.

Brett’s Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 1:00PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington, ND.

His Burial will take place at the Carrington Cemetery, Carrington.

I was very impressed by his politeness and the workmanship he did on the electrical project for me. He was such a nice young man.My thoughts and prayers are with his family. A young dad’s life taken way too early. God bless!
