Ella Neumiller

Ella Mae Neumiller, 95, went to her Heavenly home at 8 am Christmas morning, Dec. 25, 2022 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, ND, where she had been a resident for 5 years. She was born January 13, 1927 to Karl and Christina Bruer at Woodworth, ND. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Horning Township in Kidder County. She grew up in rural Kidder County and attended the local country school.

She married John Neumiller on January 4, 1945 in Sykeston, ND. They had 3 children- Dallas, Verna and Donna. They lived in the Heaton, ND area until 1974, when they moved to Carrington, ND. Ella Mae and John loved square dancing, camping and fishing, and socializing with family and friends. They also did volunteer work, such as delivering Meals on Wheels in the Carrington area. Family- his, hers and theirs, was very important to both of them.

Ella Mae was a very active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sykeston, where she taught Sunday School for many years. After moving to Carrington, she became a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She was a member of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) at both churches. She was also a member of VFW Auxiliary, Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary, Carrington Senior Citizens, and local Cancer and Heart Support Groups. She worked at various jobs after raising their children, including helping with the cooking at Golden Acres Nursing Home in Carrington. She loved both flower and vegetable gardening and canning the produce. She was an expert baker of bars and homemade buns, willingly doing so at the request of the many organizations to which she belonged. Ella also did crochet and sewing, making most of her own and her daughters’ clothing, teaching them to sew their own clothes by the time they entered high school.

Ella Mae is survived by 2 brothers, Richard (Norma) Bruer, Santa Ana, CA, and Charles (LuVerne) Bruer, Bowdon, ND; her son, Dallas (Linda) of Grand Forks, ND; and daughter, Verna (Ed) Linderman, Olathe, KS; grandchildren, Jennifer Roxanne (Brad) Reimer, Overland Park, KS; Carmen (Ken Van Booven) Linderman-Van Booven, Overland Park, KS; Renelle (John) Wobbema, Jamestown, ND; Scott Hafner, Napoleon, ND; Matthew (Nicole) Neumiller, Larimore, ND; Mitchell Neumiller, Grand Forks, ND; Nicholas (Carrie) Neumiller, Fargo, ND; step-grandchildren, Stacy Fontaine, Fargo, ND, and Tim Fontaine, Grand Forks, ND; 21 great-grandchildren and 6 great- great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Mathilda Morlock and Louise Neumiller; her husband; daughter, Donna Hafner; step-grandson, Jeff Fontaine; and granddaughter-in-law, Cheryl Hafner.

 

Ella Mae’s Visitation will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023 from 10:00AM-11:00AM followed by her Funeral Service at 11:00AM all at Grace Lutheran Church, Carrington, ND.

Her Burial will take place at the Heaton Cemetery, Heaton, ND.

  1. My thoughts and prayers to the family. Ella Mae was my favorite Sunday School teacher at St. Paul’s in Sykeston. She was such a kind lady.

  2. Dorothy and I are sending you our deepest condolences in this trying time. Your Mother had a full life, and it is always hard to say goodbye. Mom’s are very special to their sons. I know you will miss her greatly.
