Gary Rosenau, age 88, of Bordulac, ND, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2023, during his last harvest near Carrington, ND.

Gary Allan Rosenau was born December 16, 1934, in Carrington, ND to Wilferd and Ruth (Hains) Rosenau. He attended Rosehill #4 through 8th grade and later graduated from Carrington High School in 1952. He married Helen Neumiller on January 5, 1961, at the Federated Church in Carrington. They lived on the WA Rosenau homestead before moving to Bordulac in 1965, where he still resided.

Gary’s calling was in agriculture, whether he was farming, ranching, hauling hay, or “supervising” his family’s operations. He was often called the “straw boss” during harvest and his family could always count on him being at the end of the field with a warm coke and a ride. In 1971, Gary and Helen became owners of Rosenau Seed and Supply. Then in 1990, they started a recycling business called 4R’s Recycling.

Gary enjoyed collecting John Deere toys and antique machinery. Later in life, Gary and Helen would host a Threshing Bee for the community every fall. He would also fix up old tractors for the annual tractor treks, where he was a devoted participant. Gary took pride in sharing his experience to his family of how farming was back in the day.

Gary also enjoyed spending time at the Carrington Senior Citizen’s Club. His family will forever remember his ability to ask the same question in twenty different ways. Grandpa Gary rarely missed a birthday party, ballgame, baptism, or any other family event for his grandchildren, cherishing his great-grandchildren just as much. He truly loved his family unconditionally.

Gary is survived by his four children, Tanya (Curt) Timm, Kensal, Troy (Jane) Rosenau, Thad (Ronda) Rosenau, both of Carrington, and Tyrone (Sheri) Rosenau, Jamestown; thirteen grandchildren, Titus (Jess) Timm, Tanner (Annie) Timm, Chase Rosenau, Caylor (Kelly) Rosenau, Jayden Rosenau, Savanna (Bryce) Benson, Michael Myers, Sara (Tanner) Myers, Justin Myers, Lukas (Misty) Rosenau, Tyler Rosenau, Nolan Kratz, and Kohl Kratz; 10 great-grandchildren, Tristen, Jaelyn, Jada, Trevor, Harlee, Addie, Rhett, Ruby, Jagger, and Rowdy with baby Benson expected soon; a sister, Peggy (Ed) Smith, a brother, Jack Rosenau and a special friend, Carol Engel.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; parents, Wilferd and Ruth Rosenau; infant sister, Lauralee and a sister-in-law, Carol Rosenau.

Memorials may be made to the Carrington Cemetery, P.O. Box 355, Carrington, ND 58421.

Gary’s Visitation will be Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 1:00PM-4:30PM at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington, and will continue from 6:00-7:00PM at the Federated Church UCC/UMC followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00PM.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 29, 2023, at 10:30AM at the Federated Church UCC/UMC, Carrington.

His Burial will be at the Carrington Cemetery.

  2. All the Rosenau’s, Your Family were the best neighbors anyone could ask for!! The memories are some of my all time favorite. Your Mom and Dad were excellent friends of our parents with many cherished memories. My heart is very sad for you all. I know it’s hard, but I hope you all can find comfort in knowing your Dad is still on that John Deere tractor and your Mom is right next to him (probably driving over to see what’s going on across the road). Love and Hugs to each and everyone of you.
