An angel made her way to heaven as Betty (Hallwachs) Schock, 84, of Carrington, ND, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Betty was born on March 10, 1936, in Foster County, North Dakota as the fifth child to Charles and Helen Hallwachs. Betty grew up on her family farm in the Hawksnest Hills south of Carrington. In her youth she attended a country school prior to attending high school in Carrington where she graduated in 1954.

Betty was united in marriage on July 15, 1954, to Charles “Bud” Schock. Betty moved into Charles’ family farm south of Carrington.

Betty attended summer school at Valley City State University for a teaching certificate. Betty’s first job was teaching at a little K-12 country school located just south of the Schock family farm. She taught until 1959, when her and Bud welcomed their first and only child, Carol Lin into this world. Betty worked on the family farm alongside Bud while also being employed as a bookkeeper at Clark Truck Line for several years. Betty later took on one last job as the store manager of the Highway Standard gas station in Carrington before retiring after more than 15 years of service.

Betty and Bud were inseparable, where you saw one the other was always present. Besides spending much time with Bud on the farm, they took many trips with family and friends to many places throughout the country. Betty loved her family with all her heart.

Betty is survived by her husband, Charles “Bud” Schock; a daughter, Carol Lin (Curt Jones); and two grandchildren, Joshua (Keshia) Jones and Aryelle (Brian Schiller). She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Helen; and her brother, Marvin Hallwachs.

Betty’s family would like to extend a special “thank you” to the nursing staff at Carrington Hospital, especially to her niece, Karen Munkeby, and friend, Carol Sherman, who both made sure Betty was well cared for and kept comfortable during her final days.

To honor and respect Betty’s final wishes, there will only be a graveside service. Betty did not want anyone exposed to COVID-19 by attending her funeral. To all her friends, neighbors, and acquaintances, your thoughts, prayers and love will be felt through the distance.

Her Visitation will be Wednesday, July 15, 2020, 10:00AM-5:00PM with family present from 4:00PM-5:00PM at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

A Graveside Service will be Thursday, July 16, 2020, 11:00AM at the Carrington Cemetery, Carrington, ND.
