Troyal Thumb Sr., Cante Tankińyan Hokśina “Big Heart Boy”, 30, of Oberon, ND, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at CHI St. Alexius Health, Carrington, ND.

Troyal Gavin Thumb Sr. was born on April 30, 1992 to Colleen Chaske and Gary Thumb Jr. in Devils Lake, ND. He spent most of his entire life in Spirit Lake, ND. Troyal started his first trucking experience at the age of a month old, when he went to California with his parents.  Troyal started working with his Grandpa Gary Sr. at a very early age, he was always by his Grandpa side. He graduated from Four Winds High School in 2011, he was on the basketball and football team. He then started driving for Berg Grain & Produce, Fargo, ND. He also worked for the Swingen Construction, Grand Forks, the company rebuilt the old wooden bridge located in Sheyenne, ND. He did love the construction work. His latest job was working as a farm hand for the Haman Ranch, up until he passed away.

Troyal had a big heart, made of gold. He was always willing to help anyone who needed it. He loved his art and crafts, he was very creative. He was an avid deer antler collector. Troyal enjoyed being outdoors, such as, hunting, fishing or just taking walks with his children. He tinkered around on his down time with many of his undone projects, lol.

Troyal is survived by his parents, Colleen Chaske and Gary Thumb; siblings, Tanisha Thumb, Tiana Thumb, Taylah Thumb and Rodney Spicer and 4 children he leaves behind, Hailen Thumb, Troyal Thumb Jr., Aspen Thumb and Lathan Thumb. He will be forever loved and greatly missed by his family, relatives, children and all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gary & Doris Thumb Sr., Big Joe & Corrine Chaske and Winfield & Evelyn Chaske; sister, Rancee Jo Chaske-Thumb; cousins, Jordan Riggle and Elizabeth Blackboy and all of his many relatives and family who left before him. Troyal has a big family who all love this gentle giant.

Troyal’s Visitation will be Monday, at 5:00PM followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00PM all at Crow Hill Wellness Center, Fort Totten, ND.

 Friends wishing to join the procession from New Rockford to Ft. Totten may gather on the St. Jerome’s road, Fort Totten, prior to 4:15PM.

A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 10:00AM at Crow Hill Wellness Center, Ft. Totten.

His Burial will be at the St. Jerome’s Catholic Cemetery, Ft. Totten at a later date.

  24. My heart goes out to the children and the family. I worked in the old Oberon Elementary School and had the pleasure of working with both Troyal Jr. and Aspen. Troyal Sr. was very interested in their schooling and how they were doing, if they were done with their homework or needed to buckle down and finish some work. He was a good, caring dad, who watched out for his children.

  26. rest well Troyal…..my condolences to his family….last I saw Troyal was in kids Sunday school at Dakota Baptist church. He brought his kids and was doing fatherly, Christian worship to bring his family closer to Jesus. I take joy knowing he knew the Lord and how to pray. He knew theory above and now he is with our creator. Thank you for living a beautiful loving life Troyal. you inspired so many.

  46. Each day that passed doesn’t seem to get any easier, you just kind of get numb to it. So many memories of laughs & hunting & family. Your memory is all I’m left with Hoss and it will never ware dull. You will be greatly missed bro & I will do my very best to help out your folks & family in any way I can as I know you would have done the same for me. I love you my brother.
