Rebecca “Becky” Jane Utke passed away peacefully on Friday, March 5th after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, while surrounded by her loving family.

Becky was born on August 1, 1950 to parents William (Bill) and Leona Black. She attended college at NDSU, beginning her avid following of the Bison. Becky met the love of her life in the summer of 1967 and she and David were married on June 28th, 1969. They made their home on the farm near Glenfield. David and Becky enjoyed a full and happy life together for nearly 52 years.

Becky was an active member of the local community. She was involved in a variety of organizations over the years, including Glenfield Lutheran Church, teaching Luther League and serving on the Altar Guild. She had many great memories of her friends in the Glenfield Homemakers Club. In the mid-90’s, Becky began working in various positions in the medical field, retiring at the end of 2016 from Sanford Health as a certified medical coder.

Becky’s greatest love in life was spending time with her family. She could pull everyone together with a good game or puzzle. She thoroughly enjoyed shopping, decorating, and getting together for the holidays. Christmas was her Super Bowl. Everyone knew Grandma Becky was a perfect gift giver. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She loved supporting them by attending school and athletic activities, providing baked goods and treats, and making gift baskets for every holiday.

Her hobbies included gardening, quilting, camping, cooking, listening to music and traveling. Becky was known for living her life with grace, having a loving gentle spirit, and a strong quiet faith. She loved spending time at the lake and socializing with friends and family whenever possible.

She is survived by her loving husband, David; her children, Janna (Todd) Vetsch, Fargo, ND, Joel (Holly) Utke, Glenfield, ND; her grandchildren, Ben and Josh Vetsch, Drew, Ethan and Bryce Utke and Brooke, Hudson and Sienna Topp; her mother Leona Black, New Rockford, ND, sisters Barb Venarchick, Casa Grande, AZ, Donetta Black, Casa Grande, AZ, her brother Kevin (Judy) Black, Grace City, ND, and sister in law Judy Stevens, Rochester, MN, her nieces and nephews Eric (De Anne) Stevens, Mike (Tranette) Stevens, Brenna (Bryan) Coltrane, Meghan McLaughlin, Kim (Kip) Brandt, and Shane (Jess) Black, as well as several great nieces and nephews.

Donations can be made in Becky’s memory to your local Hospice or the Roger Maris Cancer Center.

A Visitation will be Thursday, 9:00AM – 5:00PM with family present from 4:00PM-5:00PM at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

Becky’s Funeral Service will be held Friday, March 12, 2021, at 2:00PM at Prairie Faith Church, Glenfield, ND.

  18. David and Family,
So sorry for your loss. I remember as a summer job while in college, staining the woodwork in your master bath. Becky was so encouraging. She always said hello and was genuinely interested in how you were doing. I also remember my mom making your wedding cake. Keep the memories close, they help with the deep sorrow.

I loved that we actually got to spend time together as grown adults a few years ago. So warm and wonderful memories I have.
