Rose Marie McKay Walker ~ Wastedapewin, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family in North Sioux City, SD.

Rose McKay was born on July 2, 1934 in Fort Totten, ND to Gabriel McKay and Mary Woods.  She was raised in Crow Hill and attended school at St. Michael.  She was married to Clement Mitchell, he had three daughter, Mary, Virginia and Cathy.  Rose and Clement had five children together, John, Roxann, Clementine, Molly and Jacky.  She later married Thruman Walker.  She attended the University of South Dakota and Little Priest Trible College where she received her degree.

She is survived by her children Roxann Mitchell, Clementine (Mike) Looper, Molly (Randy) Redpath, Jacky (Jeff) Lenzini, Cathy Mitchell, Ted (Shery) May, sister Catherine Howard and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Rose is preceded in death by parents Gabriel McKay and Mary Woods, husbands Clement Mitchell and Thruman Walker, daughters Mary Newton and Virginia French and son John Mitchell, sisters Theresa McKay, Silvia BrownShield and Irene McKay and brother Floyd McKay.

Wake will be Sunday, June 27, 2021 from 5:00PM – 7:00PM followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00PM all at Fort Totten Rec. Center, Fort Totten, ND.

Friends wishing to join the procession from New Rockford to Ft. Totten may gather on the St. Jerome’s road, Fort Totten, prior to 4:30PM.

Funeral Service will be held Monday, June 28, 2021 at 10:00AM at Fort Totten Rec. Center, Fort Totten, ND.

Burial will be at St. Jerome’s Catholic Cemetery, Fort Totten, ND.

  3. Sister Rose we always love and always looked to the annual powwows we attended. It was always nice to visit at St. Paul’s church.
    We miss you and will always remember you in our prayers.

  4. We miss Rose at all our annual powwows, art all the events we traditionally attend. Our visits last all through the day when we all sit together. We thank Rose for her company. We always walk out of her home with gifts. Those memories are with us always.

  7. It’s January 2023 and another year has passed I try not to cry but it’s hard not too. I try and think of july when we all got together for birthdays and remember good stuff you always said LOVE when. We talked on the phone your right mom that is a powerful word miss u. RIP. MOD
